WorkFirst

Program Overview

WorkFirst is a partnership between Wenatchee Valley College and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) that helps recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) access education, training, and support services needed to enter the workforce. Your class hours will count as your participation in the WorkFirst program through DSHS.

To see if you qualify for the WorkFirst program, please contact your program specialist at DSHS for a referral. 


Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate in WorkFirst if:

  • You are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash benefits through DSHS.
  • You are enrolled or interested in enrolling in classes at Wenatchee Valley College.
  • Your program specialist at DSHS must send us a referral.

Program Benefits

By participating in WorkFirst at Wenatchee Valley College, your class hours will count toward the participation requirement to continue receiving TANF benefits through DSHS.

WorkFirst participants may also receive: 

  • Eligible student status for Working Connections Childcare subsidy program
  • Financial assistance for tuition, fees, and books
  • Student support funds, including clothing, transportation, personal hygiene, medical, testing, and emergency expenses
  • Work-Study funding up to 19 hours per week
