What is "Summer Bridge"?

The Summer Bridge program is an annual, 3-day event that helps students prepare for the upcoming academic year. Whether you are brand new or continuing on, the events are focused on helping you have the best tools to succeed at WVC and beyond!

The events kick-off on Wednesday, July 13th with our family and friends night (4:00pm - 6:00pm). Bring your family, friends, or anyone who supports you on your journey for games and dinner. We'll give everyone a crash course on "college knowledge" to help them learn tools to support you. If you don't have anyone who can attend with you - come anyway! It's a great opportunity to make new friends, get to know our staff, and maybe learn some new things about college!

Our second day of events on Thursday, July 14th, focus on building up community, leadership, teamwork, and goal-setting (10:00am - 2:00pm). We'll help you learn your academic and personal strengths and encourage you to reflect on your areas for improvement. The events are fun, engaging, and low-pressure. Come make new friends and learn a bit about yourself. Lunch will be provided.

Our third and final day will host our virtual summer bridge events. Join us on Friday, July 15th from 10:00am - 12:00pm for online sessions that cover "real-world" topics such as financing college, study skills, and time-management.

Who can participate?

Our summer bridge events are open to all new and continuing TRIO SSS participants. This includes brand new WVC students and those continuing on.

What is TRIO SSS? How do I join?

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federal program that provides free services to students at WVC. The program is designed to guide you through your associate's degree and help you transfer to a four-year program. Not sure what your goals are? That's okay! We're here to help you figure it out and make a plan.

We accept 140 students into TRIO SSS every academic year. If you have a high school diploma or GED and are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, we encourage you to apply! Our students must either be first-generation (parents do not have a bachelor's degree), meet our income guidelines, OR have a documented disability. About half of all WVC students qualify for our program and don't even realize it! If you're unsure whether or not you qualify, we encourage you to apply anyway or reach out to us with your questions!
