LPN to BSN Requirements and Expectations

Program Requirements

  • Have completed a Licensed Practical Nursing program with a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or higher.
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA earned in every nursing course.
  • Forty-five credits of general education requirements, including:
    • CHEM& 121 Intro to Chemistry (5 credits) 
    • BIOL& 211 Majors Cellular or BIOL& 160 General Biology (5 credits) 
    • BIOL&241 Human Anatomy & Physiology 1 with lab (5 credits) 
    • BIOL& 242 Human Anatomy & Physiology 2 with lab (5 credits) 
    • BIOL& 260 Microbiology with Lab (5 credits) 
    • MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics(5 credits) 
    • PSYC& 100 General Psychology(5 credits) 
    • PSYC& 200 Lifespan Psychology(5 credits) 
    • ENGL& 101 Composition General(5 credits) 
  • Current unencumbered LPN licensure in Washington State, or can receive licensure by start of the program. 

Application Requirements

  • Resume/CV
  • Transcripts from all post-secondary education programs, including LPN program.
  • Professional reference (academic or supervisor within the last year).
  • Background check
  • Two admissions essays:
    • What are your professional goals and how do you believe that obtaining a BSN will impact or improve your future practice? (max 1000 words)

  • Pay application fee of $50 to the cashier's office (Wenatchi Hall). 

Expectations

  • You will need to have a statistics course before admission into the LPN to BSN program.
    • WVC offers MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics.
    • This course is necessary to prepare for the community health nursing and research coursework.
  • You will need to have a chemistry course.
    • WVC offers CHEM& 121 Introduction to Chemistry.
  • You will need to complete 10 credits of Communications, including ENGL& 101 Composition General (5 credits)
    • You can pick an additional 5-credit course from WVC, such as ENGL 201, 202, 203 or 235 for degree completion
  • You will need to have at least 10 credits of Humanities
    • Not necessary for admission but required for degree completion.
    • WVC has many classes, and you can choose two, 5-credit courses from Art, Chicano Studies (CHST 120) American Indian Indigenous Studies (AIIS& 170 OR AIIS& 203), Communications, English (literature, creative writing, poetry or fiction), Humanities, Music, Philosophy, Theater Arts or World Language. These can be from the same subject area. For example, two Spanish classes would satisfy the requirement.
  • If these courses have not been completed prior to starting the LPN to BSN program, you will need to take them concurrently with your nursing courses. This may result in you being a less competitive applicant, so reach out to us for any questions!

This program is roughly 70-80% online and 20-30% in-person.  The in-person days are mandatory.
